Last year we indulged in the macabre joy of Sacrifices Must Be Made, a rough gem prototype from Pony Island Creator Daniel Mullins that we came across while scouring game jam entries.
Part Darkest Dungeon, Part Hand Of Fate, the original prototype was built around a simple yet addicting head-to-head card battle game that I’ve been unable to satiate my cravings for outside of the deeply riveting Phantom Rose. This time however, Inscryption is going to have a lot more going for it than just the core formula, revisiting the concept with new features and a narrative driven focus.
Based on the microtrailer posted via Mullin’s twitter account, one of the new mechanics is navigating an overworld, implying we’ll be showing down with multiple big baddies in this version. It looks like we’re in for a treat with the game’s atmosphere, taking the best elements from Sacrifices and rendering them with far more attention to detail thanks to the help of 3D artists Tamara Orlova and David Hagemann who have joined the project. It also looks like Jonah Senzel of Pony Island soundtrack fame will return to score Inscryption.
Mullins plans to release Inscryption for PC, Mac, and Linux likely on Steam and Itch.io, and with this announcement it seems like the next few years are going to be extremely promising for experimental commercial releases.
